What interests me most about filmmaking is the ability to explore the inner worlds of people and turn things that are difficult to express into something visual. I’m particularly drawn to themes like mental health, consciousness, identity, perception and human relationships. I love finding visual approaches that make a character’s emotions and subjective reality tangible, whether through animation, stylized visuals, or unconventional storytelling. Ultimately, I want to tell emotionally honest stories that stay with people and maybe make them see something in themselves a little differently.

Matthias Strasser is a Swiss animator with a passion for telling emotionally touching stories through raw, expressive visuals. His creative journey began in childhood, shooting short films with the kids in the neighborhood on an iPod. Not long after, he discovered After Effects and later 3ds Max, where he created his first animated short. After graduating from school, he studied film before returning to his main focus: animation. In 2020, he began studying Animation at the Animationsinstitut at Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, specializing in directing, where he created the Student Academy Award-winning short film The Panic Inside. When he’s not animating, he can reportedly be found somewhere in the Swiss Alps.
