Bio: Making films since 14-years-old, Lia Dekel’s desire to create nuanced worlds of images keeps growing. In her films she explores the experiences of growing up in a society that is crumbling, due to the masculine, militant and violent culture in Israel. At the same time, her films center on the pure beauty of Tel Aviv, her hometown. Lia's films combine subjective cinematic language, colorful detailed set design and realistic, grotesque, and tense dialogue. Following her work in non-profit organizations for human rights, alongside studying from a young age about filmmaking and film history, she is looking to create sensitive cinema that connects the personal and the political. Lia is also a Writer for the Film Magazine OFF SCREEN since 2020, where she publishes articles on film theory, writes film critique, and makes video-essays.
