In my house, food is king. It's how my family displays affection. It's how we argue. How we break news to each other. It happens over food, and I've always wanted to pay homage to that. And so, BUS-GIRL was born. I have to admit, this short is several years late. My producer has tried to get me to direct many times before and I've repeatedly shied away out of fear that I don't have what it takes. So when I genuinely started to consider it, of course, that is what I poured into June. She's a young woman in a male- dominated career, trying desperately to keep her dream alive. She wants to create an experience, immerse her audience and provide some momentary escape. I found myself strangely echoing June's journey each day, both in front and behind the camera -- it felt like I was back on my very first set, wondering what to do and terrified I was in everyone's way. I hope that the film captures this feeling: terror, mixed with awe and hunger. A single night where anything is possible. Where dreams are made or broken.
