André Vaara is a director and screenwriter born in northern Sweden. He holds a bachelor's degree in film from HDK-Valand and a master's degree in film directing from Stockholm University of the Arts. In his work, André often portrays intimate stories exploring gender roles, identity, and longing. His short films "I Want to See Gellivare Burn", "Baby", and "Boys" have been screened at festivals and won awards, including at the Hamburg International Short Film Festival and the Stockholm International Film Festival. His latest short film, "Sister of Mine", was nominated for Startsladden (Swedish Short Competition) at the Göteborg Film Festival. André was also selected for European Film Promotion's Future Frames at the 60th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. Currently, André is developing his first feature film, "Beautiful Misfits", which received the Swedish Film Institute's Wild Card award.
