Born in Hong Kong, Kalun studied Media Arts and Filmmaking at the School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong. He later earned an MA in Intermedia Arts from the University of the Arts in Poznań, Poland, and an MA in Film Production from Catalyst – Institute for Creative Arts and Technology in Berlin. He began his career as a fashion and commercial photographer and TV commercial director before fully transitioning into filmmaking. In his earlier practice, Kalun also explored image-based interdisciplinary art, with works exhibited internationally at events such as the WRO Media Art Biennale in Poland, Kasseler Dokfest in Germany, and Les Instants Vidéo in France. Based in Tokyo since 2021, he works as a photographer, cinematographer, and director. He continues to pursue independent filmmaking while also engaging in music video and commercial projects. His practice explores the intersections of social norms, personal history, and language, blending documentary and fictional approaches.
