Naures Sager is an Iraqi-Swedish filmmaker who was born in Bulgaria but grew up in Sweden. He completed a Bachelor Degree in Film Production at University West in 2008. He is the founder of the production company The Uneven which produces LGBTQ+ films, with focus on people from the Middle East. Naures is an openly gay man and lives with his boyfriend Michael Detlef in Malmö, Sweden, where they run the company. Naures’s short film “1-1” has been screened at film festivals all over the world (including NewFest and Cleveland International Film Festival). It was nominated for the Iris Prize and won the Pixel Talent Award in 2020. It has been renewed for screening at SVT Play for a total of three years. Naures’s new short film Habib & The Thief had its world premiere at the Uppsala Short Film Festival before traveling to the New Orleans Film Festival and Leeds International Film Festival as the start of its festival journey. The film was nominated for 1 km film at the Stockholm Film Festival 2021 and will be screened at SVT Play as its a co-production with SVT. The title song of the film is Naures’s debut single “Mako Mithli”, an Iraqi Queer Anthem that will make you dance.
