Markela Kontaratou is a visual artist and filmmaker who lives and works in Athens, Greece and London, UK. She studied in Athens School of Fine Arts (2013 - 2018) and Willem De Kooning Academy, Rotterdam. In 2017 she received the Stavros Niarchos Foundation scholarship to study English Literature in Deree College, Athens. She completed an MA in Filmmaking in London Film School. Her work as a visual artist has been showcased in many group exhibitions in Greece and throughout Europe while her debut short film Scorched Earth was selected to premiere at the 2023 edition of Locarno Film Festival.
