My visual language focuses on telling stories of a longing for something that has been lost while discovering the otherness that lingers within us. Alternating between rawness and sensuality indicates my aesthetic approach that is wrapped in haptics of human bodies. During my training years I learnt directing i.a. from Jessica Hausner, Michael Haneke and Wolfgang Murnberger. Years of experience in contemporary dance complete my methods of working with actors.

Bio: Magdalena Chmielewska - Director and screenwriter based in Vienna. Her films traveled to numerous international film festivals like Karlovy Vary or Palm Springs winning many awards, including the First Steps Award and Max Ophüls Preis, the most important newcomer honors in the German speaking countries. She was in the selection of the ten outstanding newcomer directors from Europe selected by the KVIFF. Years of experience in contemporary dance complete her methods of working with actors. Currently she is developing her first feature film with the Vienna based award winning Panama Film.
