She currently is a film professor at Beit Berl college, head of the film department at Zora kibbutz high school, and is a national lecturer in film for the Israeli education council. Currently she’s prepping for filming her short film HIS WIFE supported by Makor film fund. Liat has been living in Revadim kibbutz for the past 13 years. ⸻ Director Statement Hagit awaits the long-delayed return of her husband, Michael, who has been hospitalized after a severe military injury. What should be a joyful Shabbat quickly turns into a tense and suffocating evening, forcing Hagit to confront a painful truth: she is no longer a partner, but a caregiver. After a long night, Hagit makes a critical decision. This story is rooted in my own life. More than a decade ago, my husband battled a rare degenerative disease for several long painful years before ultimately passing away. Throughout that challenging period, my focus was steadfastly on caring for him and our children. I often felt as if I was playing a role that served both our community and our family, providing the care he needed. I wanted to make a film about my life story. During research, I met Ruki Israel, whose husband sustained a head injury in military service. After years of struggle, she made the heartbreaking choice to leave. She shared her diary with me, and her honesty became the foundation of this script. Through Hagit’s journey, I aim to explore the complexities of love, sacrifice and resilience in the face of adversity. It is a testament to the indomitable spirit of those who face unimaginable challenges and the strength they discover within themselves to forge a new path forward.
