Katarína Gramatová began her film career as a film editor. In 2023, she completed her master’s degree in Editing at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava. During her undergraduate studies, she directed her debut short film Cherries (2019), which received a Special Mention at the Zlín Film Festival. Her following short film, the hybrid documentary "Good mind grows in thorny places" (2024), was recognized at festivals worldwide. It premiered at the Krakow Film Festival, was selected for the prestigious Future Frames program at KVIFF, and won Best Documentary at the Tampere Film Festival 2025, the Jury Prize at Elbe Dock, and the Jury Prize at the International Festival of Romani Film. Her feature debut "Promise I'll be fine" (2024) had its world premiere in the main competition of the Tokyo International Film Festival 2024, and was also screened at the Beijing International Film Festival 2025 and the Shanghai International Film Festival. Its European premiere took place at KVIFF 2025, followed by screenings at the Galway Film Fleadh and the Giffoni Film Festival, where it received the award for Best Cinematography. Katarína uses her editing skills in her storytelling. She strives to tell socially challenging stories in a playful manner, infusing them with her unique sense of humor.
