I try to bring fresh feeling movies to European cinema. I see it as my mission to make movies that merge the conventional artistic (art house) movies from Europe with the American and more commercial style of filmmaking. I also believe in making films that doesn't have to cost the world to produce; with a smart script set in restricted locations with great actors you can make films that are extraordinary and feel unique.

Joris Tobé graduated from the Utrecht filmschool in 2022. His debut short film Verwoede Pogingen (Frantic Attempts) won the Dutch film critics award for best graduation film at the Dutch Film Festival. Before attending film school, Joris studied theater. This influence can be seen in his films, as he tends to restrict himself by setting his films in only one location. He also likes working with actors that have their roots in theater. Joris' films are characterized by an ongoing interchange in comedy and drama in which both strike unexpectedly. " I am intrigued by our never ending search for control. Right when you think you’ve figured it all out, it turns out everything is not what it seems. This is the tragic comedy of life I try to show in my films. Perhaps, we’re the same after all."
