Born in Beirut, Hussen first studied Architecture before turning to filmmaking and video art. He earned an MFA in Cinema from the Red Sea Institute for Cinematic Arts (a branch of USC) and is currently studying International Production at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg. His short films explore human relationships, family dynamics, masculinity, and surreal aspects of life. One of his shorts, funded by AFAC, DFI, Netflix’s Fund for Creative Equity, and Île-de-France, was selected for international film festivals such as Drama, Red Sea, BUFF, Cinekid, and INTERFILM. His latest short won the Prix George for Best Documentary Form and the Jury Prize for Best Documentary Form at Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur, and was also selected at INTERFILM – 41 International Short Film Festival Berlin, Internationale Kurzfilmwoche Regensburg (Special Mention, German Competition), Glasgow Short Film Festival, and Vienna Shorts. He is currently developing his debut feature with support from AFAC, the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Fund, and the Red Sea Production Fund. He has participated in labs and residencies including Sundance/RFC Rawi, MFI, Thessaloniki Agora, Meeting on the Bridge, and Cité des Arts. Hussen is an alumnus of Berlinale Talents (2019 and 2025), the Zurich Film Academy, and Camerimage Talents, and is a member of the European Film Academy.
