Bio: Elina Löwensohn is a cosmopolitan actress born in Romania, American and living in France. Her acting career includes films, videos, photos, performances and theater plays with a pronounced desire for metamorphosis. Starting her career in the early 90s, in the independent New York theatrical and cinema scene, she is remarked in the most famous films of Hal Hartley «Simple Men» and «Amateur», in «Basquiat» by Julian Schnabel and «Nadja» by Michael Almereyda. She also plays in more commercial films such as: «Schindler’s List» by Steven Spielberg, «The Wisdom of Crocodiles» by Po Chih Leong or the comic series «Seinfeld», as well as «Dark Water» by Walter Salles. In the mid 90s, she begins living in France, where she continues her high standard choices, taking part in «Somber» by Philippe Grandrieux, « he Black Venus» by Abdellatif Kechiche, «Lourdes» by Jessica Hausner, and again with Hal Hartley in «Fay Grim». As well as other more mainstream films such as «Declaration of War» by Valérie Donzelli, «A very long engagement» by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, «Romaine 30o Below» by Agnes Obadia. Other more recent films have been «Let the corpses tan» by Cattet and Forzani, «Suite Armoricaine» by Pascale Breton, and «Simple Women» by Chiara Malta. Another turning point in her career has been her collaboration with the French director Bertrand Mandico since 2010. Together with Mandico, she imagines a series of films and polymorphous creations, exploring the mise en abyme of the director-actress relationship, the latest being «Ultra Pulpe», and the features «The Wild Boys» and «After Blue (Paradis Sale)». Elina Lowensohn has directed a first short film «Wayfarer», a documentary essay «Under the Volcano» and the trilogy «Nothing will be the same again» presented in the Official Selection of the Locarno Film Festival 2022.
