My work explores memory, displacement, exile, belonging, and the emotional traces of lived experience. I am interested in how personal experiences intersect with broader social and political realities, and how distance, absence, and longing shape identity and our understanding of home.

Arezu Khanicheh is a Berlin-based Iranian filmmaker, photographer, and editor working across documentary and fiction, with a focus on memory, exile, and displacement. An alumna of the Iranian Youth Cinema Society (IYCS) and Catalyst Film School in Berlin, her work includes Those Who Left, Those Who Stayed (2025), winner of a tied Best Film award at the Catalyst Catties Festival and selected for the AG Kurzfilm Catalogue (2026). Her script In Between (2021) was a semifinalist in a Berlin-based funding competition, and her short stop-motion Harmony (2020) was recognised by IYCS for its originality. She has also written for the acclaimed animated series Shekarestan and Hooshan. She is currently developing Mirage of Desire (2026), a short fiction film blending poetic and documentary realism.
