Terence Li is a filmmaker, photographer and mixed-media artist based in Berlin. Interweaving fictional, documentary and performative elements, Li’s works probe into ambiguities in visual narratives; they shed light on the inner space-time of queer people, the displaced and the marginalised. He studied narrative filmmaking with Thomas Arslan at the University of the Arts Berlin. Li is the recipient of a number of awards and grants. In 2023, he completed the short film “Only the Shadows Move”, funded by the Hong Kong Art Development Council and the Fresh Wave International Film Festival. He was also the winner of Hong Kong Human Rights Arts Prize 2021 with his documentary short “Green Walls” and his video work “Oriental Berlin” was shown in the Barbican’s Chronic Youth Film Festival 2020 in the UK. He has also won the Incubator for Film and Visual Media in Asia (ifva) awards and the Promax Gold Award with works he had produced and written. His photographic works were published in numerous art magazines and won the 1st prize in the German-French Photo Competition in 2022. From 2015 to 2019, Li worked as a Producer with National Geographic, where he produced TV-Documentaries about human geographies, natural history and travels. Furthermore, Li is a member of the International Association of Theatre Critics (IATC). He has been invited to theatre festivals around the world and his articles have been published in various print and online platforms, including Repazine, Artism and Macau Theatre Reviews.
