Short time after I had moved to New York to study Documentary Filmmaking I started exploring queer underground sex parties. I had previously lived in a small university town in Eastern Germany where those types of queer sex positive events can’t be found. One of the first things that sparked my interest was trying to understand from a sociological point of view, what makes these semi-public spaces, these lofts and sex dungeons so special, who else is coming there and why? Orgy Every Other Day is centered around the conversations I had with my non-binary and trans friends and some of the organizers of the parties. It was clear to me from the early beginning that I didn’t want to film at the parties, to not show the obvious: people having sex and orgies. I thought it would be more interesting to find an alternative visual language. That’s why I started to work with dancers and reached out to a friend in Glasgow who made these beautiful illustrations. Everybody I talked to, shared, that what they experienced at the parties was liberating in many ways. The spaces are for instance highly educational, especially when it comes to practicing consent and overcoming sexualized violence that is unfortunately still very present in almost every night club.
