Nim Kyong Ran was signed on as a film director at the age of 20, winning the ‘Best New Director’ award at the Roy Gala after one year in the industry. She made a mark early on with her visually and emotionally charged films, leading to a Grammy nomination for the video for Daniela Rathana’s “Ansikte” and another Roy nomination for Seinabo Sey’s “I’m just mad”. In recent years, she has increasingly focused on developing her own narrative projects. Among these are a short film series on sexual harassment and rape with Anna Odell as dramaturg and Thordis Elva as a consultant, a short film based on Nim’s ten- hour interrogation with the Tokyo police, which led to a two-week-long detention without a translator or access to the outside world, and a feature film with development support from SFI that portrays and explores burnout.
