Nilgün Akıncı is an accomplished director and writer based in Cologne, Germany, with a diverse and innovative portfolio that spans documentary, fiction, and experimental formats. As a Muslim feminist, her work is deeply rooted in exploring themes of identity, culture, and social impact. Akıncı’s recent projects include directing artist portraits for prestigious German Museums. Her expertise in visual storytelling extends to live direction, the award-winning Karakaya Talk, which earned the Grimme Online Award in 2020. The documentary "Unter einem Himmel" which Akıncı wrote the concept for and codirected explores the emotional connection of Ramadan in Germany and won the Golden Palm at the Saudi Film Festival in 2023. As a writer, Akıncı has contributed to numerous acclaimed projects, including the Warner Bros. production Sultan City for Disney+ and the upcoming Konkordia, produced by Maria Furtwängler. She is also developing her own scince fiction feature film, "Star Wanderers", a unique narrative inspired by religious and cultural texts, soon to be produced with her co-founder with her production company Minara Studios. Her background in both Asian Studies and European cultural studies, alongside her multicultural experiences, enriches her storytelling. Akıncı actively collaborates with fellow filmmakers on projects that push the boundaries of traditional narratives.
