Poetic fantasy meets romantic horror. Polaris falling in love with the story traveller fills me with hope. With one story ending, another one might begin. The film was made by diverse European talent from Belgium, The Netherlands, Wales, Northern Ireland and Germany. We shot the film in an attic in Hamburg, independently produced, supported by Cine-Mobil, Planet X, Studio Hamburg Post Production and crowdfunding.

Beyond The Short on "Shadow Players" In 2022 writer, director and artist Mel Piper receives the Digital Media Formats for Visual Artists fellowship by the Deutscher Künstlerbund. Since its completion in 2021 her short "Shadow Players" is travelling the international film festival circuit. The film was nominated for Best Short Film at the 2021 Wales International Film Festival and Mel Piper received the Best Director award at the 2022 FantaSci Short Film Festival in Florida. According to BlueCat her work covers "terrain much too often neglected in contemporary film." Previous accolades include: ScreenCraft finalist, Stowe Story Lab Final Draft Fellowship finalist, two-time WeScreenplay Diverse Voices semifinalist and BlueCat quarter-finalist. Mel Piper was selected for the European Genre Forum, Reykjavík Talent Lab, Sitges Pitchbox and the Works in Progress at Brussels Genre Film Market. Operetta-fed by Silesian grandparents she grew up in a German fairytale forest. Studied drama in New York City, film studies in London and is based in Hamburg. Member of WIFT and EWA.
