I am deeply interested in faith, obsessions, desires, and illusions—what drives people in the one life they (presumably) have? It’s fascinating to explore how vastly self-perception and external perception can differ. I have a great passion for medical themes, especially when it comes to charlatans, impostors, quacks, and dilettantes. The most important aspect of my films is the transgression of so-called reality. Reality is constructed—and those who construct it hold power. Questioning dominant narratives, pushing them into the grotesque, and exaggerating them is at the core of my artistic thinking. Always with the reminder: It could all be completely different! I want my audience to leave my films with more energy than they had when they entered. I want to fascinate, surprise, comfort, and respond to the pain and harshness of the world with a great deal of humor and the joy of playfulness from my ensemble. Never bore them—always touch them with the best intentions and make them laugh.

Max Kubitschek was born in Jena in 2000. Between 2014 and 2018, he was an actor in the youth theater club »teenpark« at Theaterhaus Jena and also participated in various productions as both an actor and assistant. During this time, he created his first short films, including »PLURIPOTENTIA«, which was awarded the Filmthuer Special Award in 2021. While studying literature and philosophy at the Free University of Berlin, he worked as a set assistant on various film and television productions, such as »Babylon Berlin« (Tom Tykwer) and »MUX 2« (Jan Henrik Stahlberg), as well as in the production office of Hellinger/Doll. This was followed by his debut as a video artist at Staatstheater Cottbus. Since fall 2022, Max Kubitschek has been studying film directing at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg.
