Maissa Lihedheb, born in Germany to Tunisian immigrant parents, has followed an impressive academic path, specializing her Bachelor in Media and Entertainment management where she wrote a thesis titled "Symbolic Annihilation in Mass Media and Its Effects on the Identity of First-Generation Immigrants,". In May 2020, Maissa founded the Bipoc Film Society. Based in Berlin, BFS serves as a dynamic platform committed to promoting intersectionality and representation within industries that often marginalize and overlook diverse communities, perpetuating a lack of diverse narratives. Maissa has directed and produced 13 short films, along with a Feature Documentary for ARD and a TV Show for ZDF Neo. She has directed four episodes of the German TV show "Wir" (ZDF). She has an also co-directed a music video for Coldplay. Her recent film, Hundefreund (Dogfriend) earned well-deserved recognition at renowned film festivals such as the British Film Institute and Tribeca in 2022 and won for best film at Interfilm. Her short film Hundefreund was also nominated for the German Short Film Awards. Despite facing rejection from four different German film schools, her tenacity and determination led her to apply to prestigious institutions such as AFI and NYU, where she was accepted. Currently, she is pursuing a Master's degree in film at NYU Tisch, where she also assumes the role as the President for the Graduate Student Organization. She is also an Ang Lee Scholarship Grantee. Her work is currently displayed at the Film Museum in Frankfurt.
