My work centers on themes of coming of age and the contrast between youth and age, with a strong emphasis on youth culture, both from the past and present. Coming of age isn’t limited to adolescence. I believe you can experience a coming of age at any stage of life. I enjoy capturing the awkward, cringe-worthy moments between people, especially where words fail, and misunderstandings arise. These moments of speechlessness and the limitations of language intrigue me. I like to sail on the border between documentary and fiction, giving actors the freedom to improvise and embracing the spontaneous energies and coincidences that occur during shooting. My approach often explores dark humor through the actions of my protagonists, grounding it in believable, everyday situations. Physicality plays a big part in my storytelling. I think of bodies as part of an everyday choreography, blending movement, dance, and sometimes music. Music, in fact, is a core element in how I find my stories. It always weaves its way into my scripts, creating a rhythm that drives the narrative forward.
