Isabella Margara is a Greek writer/director, Sarajevo Talents alumna and medical doctor. She received the International Audience Award at Clermont-Ferrand 2023, with her second short film ‘Nothing Holier Than A Dolphin’. The film was selected by one of Europe's largest environmental organizations for its significant impact (more than 120 prominent festival screenings and 20+ international awards). Her first short film ‘54/The Blind Turtle and the Endless Sea’ (2020) screened in Oscar-qualifying festivals and is now acquired by DISNEY and CANAL+. ‘Black Water’, a post-apocalyptic western with a distinct touch of magical realism, will be her debut feature film (Foss Productions). ‘Black Water’ pitch was first presented at Thessaloniki FF Crossroads, where it received the award for a standout project and subsequently at Les Arcs Talent Lab 2023, which annually invites 8 upcoming European directors. Black Water's script is currently being developed with the support of Le Groupe Ouest in France (LIM2024 selection). At the same time, Isabella is working on her third short film, 'Primal Matter', an eco-feminist parable based on an ancient Greek myth. Our relationship with nature and the meeting point between mythology, reality and fantasy are recurrent themes in her work.
