Friedrich Schätzle, born in Dresden, discovered filmmaking at the age of 13 through stop-motion. After completing his apprenticeship as a audio-visual media designer, Friedrich Schätzle worked as an editor and camera assistant at the ARD foreign studio in Istanbul, where he produced documentary films for Arte Re, Weltspiegel, and Europamagazin in addition to news reports for Tageschau and Tagesthemen. During this time, he developed a desire to tell his own stories and reach others with them. Today, Friedrich Schätzle studies film studies at the Freie Universität of Berlin and initiates his own short film projects, writes stories, and directs. His first short film, “Ist der Platz noch frei?” (Excuse me, is this seat still available?), was screened at the Up-and-Coming International Film Festival, among others. His second short film, “Kopf oder Bauch” (Head or Gut), was screened at the Filmfest Weiterstadt in 2025. His newest Film “Yesterday it still was summer?” Is currently running at festivals, for example Filmfest Dresden.
