Esa-Lu Lorenz (she/her) was born in Germany in 1992, moved between several places and finished high school in 2012. After time abroad she studied Digital Media and Philosophy at Leuphana University of Lüneburg and Hamburg Media School. Meanwhile she began working as an Assistant Director, counting several feature- and TV productions, both German and international, up until today. 2019 she graduating with a Bachelor of Arts with a thesis about hero theories and charismatic authorities. Since then she wrote, directed and produced two short films. CLOUD STUDY, starring Antonia Breidenbach, Livia Cocco and Rufus Beck, was released in 2024 and selected at the European Filmfestival Göttingen, the Int. Sound&Film Music Festival Croatia and the Canberra Short Film Festival (a.o.). Her second short HOME was completed in 2025, had its world premiere at Hof International Filmfestival and was selected and awarded at several film festivals, such as Nordic Filmdays Lübeck, Filmfest Turkey Germany, Independent Days Karlsruhe and Short Film Festival Hamburg Mo&Friese. Currently Esa is developing another short as well as a feature and lives in Hamburg, Germany. Her focus: human interactions, injustice and mental health.
